I completed this series in February 2025, shortly after the LA fires. As we scrambled to provide aid to friends who lost everything, visions of roiling, gaseous dissolution haunted my dreams.
The title refers to a phenomenon in AI neural networks. Sometimes, during an AI's training process, learning new tasks interferes with its understanding of old tasks, eventually causing it to forget everything it knows. Our insatiable desire for these AI technologies has accelerated climate change, leading to the destruction of our communities and loss of memory.
This piece is part of our current show Catastrophic Forgetting and will remain on display in the gallery through March 15. We will ship this piece the week of March 16, 2026.
