The Potential for Further Disaster Remains

David Fullarton’s seventh solo show at the Compound Gallery is his first to feature work created since he plummeted headlong into his sixth decade as a human being. Given that fact, it is perhaps unsurprising that he defines the overarching theme of the show as “a wry reminder that no matter how bad things may seem, they can always get far worse.”

This exhibition constitutes the latest chapter in Mr. Fullarton’s ongoing droll dissection of the absurdity of our modern malaise. Deploying his trademark dark humor and ruthless wit, his work laughs in the face of looming catastrophe and ridicules the disappointing reality of diminished contemporary existence. “It’s all about hopelessness, regret, despair and disappointment, but in a fun way.” is his acerbic assessment of the work currently adorning the gallery’s walls. So, take a well-earned break from the relentlessness of our daily struggle, enjoy a little chuckle at the ridiculousness of our shared predicament, and then prepare yourself for the next onslaught.
